About The Practice
Our practice was built to provide thoughtful, comprehensive evaluations for individuals, families, schools, and agencies. Each clinician brings deep experience, careful judgment, and a commitment to clear, individualized care.
Dr. Elkhonon Goldberg brings more than 40 years of experience in neuropsychology and is internationally recognized for his work in the field.
His practice includes neuropsychological diagnosis, neurocognitive rehabilitation, and forensic neuropsychology. He has extensive experience working with traumatic brain injury, memory impairment, executive functioning difficulties, dementia, stroke, dyslexia, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and other neurocognitive conditions.
Dr. Goldberg has also supervised other neuropsychologists and remains active in research and writing. His books on neuropsychology and cognitive neuroscience have been translated into more than 24 languages.
Dr. Vanetta LaRosa holds a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology with a specialization in Human Learning and Development. She is a licensed psychologist and licensed behavior analyst with extensive experience in psychoeducational, behavioral, psychological, and neuropsychological assessment.
She specializes in learning disabilities, complex neurodevelopmental profiles, and carefully individualized evaluations. Each assessment is tailored to the person’s cognitive profile, developmental history, and presenting concerns, using tools selected to fit the individual’s needs.
With more than 20 years of experience assessing and treating individuals with neurodevelopmental differences, Dr. LaRosa brings a strong foundation in both clinical care and educational support. She founded Helping Hands Children Services in 2004, providing behavioral and educational services to more than 50 Long Island school districts. In 2019, that work expanded into Helping Hands Family, which now operates across five states.
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide thoughtful, individualized neuropsychological assessments and diagnostic services with clarity, compassion, and clinical precision.
We are committed to understanding each person’s unique cognitive and behavioral profile so we can provide accurate diagnoses and clear recommendations for treatment, support, and next steps. Our work is guided by current research, careful evaluation, and collaboration with families, providers, and other professionals.
Why Families and Professionals Work With Us
As the need for accurate, specialized evaluation continued to grow, Dr. LaRosa expanded her training in clinical neuropsychology to better serve individuals with complex learning, developmental, and behavioral profiles.
Her work in educational and behavioral settings made clear that treatment and support are most effective when they are informed by a deeper understanding of how a person learns, thinks, and processes information. That perspective led her to pursue postdoctoral re-specialization in Clinical Neuropsychology under the mentorship of Dr. Elkhonon Goldberg.
This approach remains central to the practice today: careful assessment helps clarify cognitive strengths and challenges, supports more accurate diagnosis, and leads to more effective treatment, educational planning, and long-term recommendations.
